Just
when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. Watch out for sharks, jellyfish and all manner of strange blobby creatures as you snorkel down to retrieve pearls from giant oysters. A simple game with simple excitement for simple people. |

Manic
Miner was the birth of all great platform games. Forget all those crap
attempts prior to this release - this was the platform game everyone
remembers and influenced every single platformer since, including Tomb
Raider. The basic premise of the game was to guide Miner Willy through various caverns collecting the keys to access the next caverns without being killed by strange trumpet-nosed bouncing creatures and spiky bushes. Even today, this games simpleness and addictiveness lives on and as well as being available on PC emulators it was recently released on the Game Boy Advance souped-up with flashy backgrounds. Originally the game spawned a successful sequel, Jet Set Willy, which saw the miner go through a sultan's palace in search of treasure. Classical music throughout, the sound effects were perfect being as memorable as the sound effect used when the bionic man uses his powers. Of course, the most memorable scene would the large boot which came down on Willy when all his lives were used up. |

Looks
a bit like Gauntlet but with more detail on the surrounding areas. Move your ninja around the map taking out baddies the "Enter the Dragon" way. Graphics are good quality for the Speccy and it plays good too. An uncertified classic. |

| Chucky Egg | ||
| Another
genre-busting platformer, this time featuring stupid ducks and an
egg-stealing fatboy. Ported to most 8 BIT computers, Chucky Egg sold well over a million copies in its day. The cheap and cheerful style along with its ease of play made it a quick release for stress fueled teens everywhere. Run around the screen, up and down ladders, collecting the eggs and jumping over the birds to finally release the golden goose. That was all there was to it, or was it? Could it have been a message to the youth of the day that to pull the best-looking bird you first had to fertilise many of the ugly-duckling's eggs whilst avoiding commitment to them. Hmmm? Only time will tell. It's telling.... it's telling !! |

An
absolute piss-take on quality games like Dragon Ninja and Target
Renegade. A Beat-em-up that deserves to be beaten up. At first impressions the graphics look good but they're not. Don't be fooled - this game makes poking your eyes out with a sewing needle fun. |

All-time
classic ball-bouncing game. Available on most computers in its day this game has you playing a tennis ball on its way to Wimbledon (or somewhere). En route you must avoid various nasties and keep on bouncing on the correct tiles. Due to the black and white game area, it is a bummer to play. |

Speccy's
answer to Mario. A mole that can somersault while collecting bits and bobs. In Jet Set Willy mode, you can jump about and get killed by anything you touch. This game deserves the three "C"s: Cheap, Cheerful and Crap. |
